In Queens, Desk Appearance Ticket cases are heard on Monday
afternoons in the arraignment courtroom. Regular arraignments, which
are typically slow on Mondays, are suspended during the afternoon
session between 2 PM and 5 PM in order to deal with Desk Appearance
Tickets.
That means that all the week’s Desk Appearance Tickets are focused
in on one day. That means that Desk Appearance Ticket day is
something of a chaotic experience. The courtroom in Queens is not
designed for large crowds and there are frequently far too many
people with Desk Appearance Tickets than there are available seats.
When the Court Officers open the doors at 2 PM, they will usually
instruct the people waiting to get in that only those who actually
have the Desk Appearance Tickets will be permitted entry until
enough room opens up to permit friends, family, and other spectators
in to the courtroom. If there isn’t enough room for those who have
been issued Desk Appearance Tickets, then some may have to wait
outside in the hallway until space opens up in the courtroom. The
Court Officers are very good about arranging and managing the
crowds. If you follow their instructions you will be fine.

Queens Desk Appearance Tickets are typically heard in the
arraignment courtroom in the Queens Criminal Courthouse located at
125-01 Queens Blvd., Kew Gardens, NY.
The arraignment courtroom is located in the newer (East) Wing of the
building. To get there, go through the main entrance in the
front of the building. After making your way through the metal
detectors, take a right and go down the hallway to a bank of
elevators near a large glass wall. Take the elevators down to
the Ground (G) level. The arraignment courtroom is the only
courtroom there and will be located to the left as you leave the
elevator.
Queens Desk Appearance Ticket cases are generally heard at 2 PM on
Mondays.
NOTE: When there are more DATs than usual or when regular
arraignments are busier than normal, they will occasionally open
another courtroom (usually AP3) to handle desk appearance tickets.
The court staff will post notices at the arraignment courtroom to
explain the change.
